Northern California/Nevada Upgrade Requirements

How to upgrade or downgrade

A request for an upgrade or downgrade consists following:

1. Photocopy of your USCF license.
2. Racing resume of your racing experience and a record of the previous twelve month's placings (please list races chronologically, with dates and accurate race names).
3. Stamped, self addressed envelope to receive an upgrade sticker for your current license.

  NOTE: You may also e-mail your upgrade request to casey@caseykerrigan.com. Your e-mailed request should list your Name, Address, License Number and your resume of race placings as above.

If you want an upgrade before your USCF renewal date or before applying for a new USCF license, allow 3-4 weeks before the renewal date. It is preferable that you send in your upgrade request (see above) before sending in your renewal or license application to USA Cycling. You can get your NCNCA upgrade before applying for a USCF license. Send a copy of your NCNCA license with upgrade sticker to provide proof of category for your USCF license. Downgrades to Cat 5 are not allowed.

Requirements for Upgrading

Cat 5 to Cat 4:	Experience in 10 mass start races (Minimum field size of 10 to qualify).
Cat 4 to Cat 3:	Need 20 points in any 12 month period; or experience in 25 qualifying races with a minimum of 10 top 10 placings (Minimum field of 30 for men, 10 for women and juniors).
Cat 3 to Cat 2:	Need 25 points in any 12 month period (Minimum field size of 50 for men , 20 for women).
Cat 2 to Cat 1:	Need 30 points in any 12 month period (Minimum field size of 60 for men, 30 for women).

In addition to the guidelines above:

• Masters may earn points in Masters 30+ events (towards a Category 2 upgrade) which have a field size of 50 or more riders.
• Any rider who has completed an approved skills clinic will receive 5 races worth of experience towards their 5 to 4 upgrade or an additional 7 points toward their road category 4 to 3 or 3 to 2 upgrade.
• Regardless of any other published information, DO NOT mail any upgrade requests directly to Colorado Springs.
