Year End awards/recognition
Fri, 07/27/2007 - 9:27am
So I've been thinking that it would be a good idea to come up with some year end awards/recognition to help recognize the efforts of hard working clubs and race promoters. First we need to come up with the award categories. Once we have the categories ten we can open up nominations. After nominations are set then we can have the voting.
The categories I have come up with so far are.
Race of the year
Best new race
Best course for RR
Best course for Crit
Any other ideas for possible award categories?

Probably nominations would take place in a forum topic with an email sent to the mailing list to alert people what we are doing. voting would probably be in the form of emails sent to me.
A poll in this locale is hardly representative of the 4000 riders in the NCNCA.
Sometimes, a committee or jury is more appropriate.
No one can take things "off track" faster than a track racer.
This was about year end awards.
Casey - How do you propose doing the nominations and votes? As a poll on this site? Maybe as a separate forum folder with a number of polls?

Hard to disagree when there are up to 30 kids out there learning and having fun, with their parents in the stands. It reminds of me of Little League games.
...Bella, thinking outside the box and circle. I too am looking forward to XC ski season.
End of the year?
Isn't this the pre-season?
Hellyer's upgrades are impressive. "Build it and they will come." Yet I think the best beginner session is Sunday afternoons JR 10-15 training. I have seen how its changed for the better. Now there are enough riders to make group riding a reality. Hats off to Rob Jensen, Andy Lanier, and Steve Woo for the current program. Thank you Steve Ryan and Brian Lindsay for your contributions during the leaner years.
As far as crit courses go, IMO multiple crashes should disqualify a course from receiving a nomination. And road courses that fields frequently pass others shouldn't be considered either.
Best New Race: AVC-Hellyer. If you were there, you know.
Best Race Course: Hellyer Park Velodrome, after the upgrades. Now, one of the top 6 velodromes in the country.
Most Improved Race: Masters State Track Championships, more than double the number of entries from last year.
Best Beginner's Event: Tie. EB's, and the Saturday morning beginner sessions at the track-more than 50 riders in one session last month.
Most Friendly Race: AVC-Hellyer. 300 spectators on Friday night, beer garden and BBQ on the backstretch. An infield full of riders from around the Western US, and Canada, and Malaysia, sharing advice, stories, tools, equipment, shade, Cal Giant strawberries, wine, beer, Clif bars, etc., and $10,000 in cash prizes.
