Why do promoters choose active.com over other online reg?

Just curious.
From a customer's perspective it seems a lot worse in that they never list who is registered so one can not know how close a field is to filling. (Obviously this is only a concern for the larger, lower categories or very popular events). This means that a promoter has to be very on the ball and getting the field info from active.com and updating their event website every day or a promoter can totally neglect this.

This is the information I recieved from Active. I guess they have a trial membership. After it expires they start charging your credit each month.
This equals out to $50.00 a year extra. To me companies that start charging and you have to go out of your way to stop do not need my business. This seems sneeky and unethical.
*Billing Info: As a reminder, on 6/13/2005, your credit card will be
billed for 12 months of membership, based on a $4.17 monthly fee,
(However, remember our 100% satisfaction guarantee, that states, "If you're
ever dissatisfied with ActiveAdvantage, and wish to cancel, we will
refund your annual fee on a pro-rated basis).
For the EMC/Vellum Cycles crit we paid the Online fee for Sportsbase for each racer rather than passing it on the the rider. It is more work to process the mail ins so our perspective was to give the break to those who gave us a break.
No George it is not easier to just mail it in, it's more work for all involved. Dealing with mail ins is pain in the rear.
The year is 2006, plug in homeboy.
Central Valley Classic also used Sports Base Online this year, handled over 1000 entries for three days racing. They also handled our race-day results, and their programmer created some web services for me to integrate with http://www.centralvalleyclassic.com . Nice group of people, and very responsive to our needs. Personally i prefer their work over the other two online registrars.
And if i am not mistaken, NCNCA clubs get an SBO discount per rider, since we have (had?) an agreement with them. I don't handle race finances so I dunno details about that.
And I definitely don't need to get 3 free months of Outside magazine. Or have my personal information sold to someone else if I accidentally check (or uncheck) a box.

FFBC have had on-line pre-reg for a number of years, but used a Club guru to set it up using Paypal. This year we used sportsbaseonline.com (oh look, a sponsor logo at the top of the page!) for the first time for the Celebrate Fremont criterium. I can recommend them for on-line reg.
That is right, bikereg.com. That site is cheaper and I can see who I am racing against :) Not that it really matters, but I like the cheaper thing, plus there site is a bit faster.

Promoters, please use BikeReg.com
Shows Registered Riders
Usually $1 cheaper then Active
A bit faster site.
I prefer to mail my registration stuff in the mail, but some races do not allow that and I am stuck with active.com. I hate having to pay $3, although it helps the promoters out.

Don't forget the $3.00 service charge per race entry, the irreversibilty of your race entry, and that the service may list you twice if you double clicked. Doesn't it make more sense to mail in to a human being?
And you have to submit your info 20 times b/c the site crashes and tells you to go back, so you can re-enter everything. I look forward to seeing 30 charges on my card. :x
