Its been talked about for years, but it has finally happened. Velo Promo is now using Sports Base for online registration. You can still use the old mail in method. More information can be found at: http://www.velopromo.com/

Hey, I think we have pretty cool prizes for the CAT5 men as well -- hugs & kisses!

I'm amazed VP has gone to PDF files for their race flyers.

Excellent point. However, I think on-line registration is here to stay (at least until something more convenient comes along). How shall we restore the inconvenience factor to keep those entry lists in check? Mandatory 100 pushups prior to clicking "register here"? Surely we can come up with something.
I think Warren pointed out the biggest advantage of online reg: I can wait until the last minute and still not pay a late fee!

Good stuff Ron.
Online reg is very popular with riders and promoters. Velo Promo probably accounted for a substantial numberl of the races around here without it last year so it's good to see them adopting it.
Working with Sportsbase reduces the number of person-hours needed for an event, it facilitates greater accuracy, saves the riders some time and tedious paperwork, and since pre-reg deadlines are later more riders register before race day.
If you are for it, then how about a little less effort of pointing out the pitfalls.
There is always a downside, but focusing on it is a great way to hinder progress.

Interesting, it seems like Velopromo is keeping to the wonderfully affordable $23.00 fee. Does that mean that sportsbase is going to tack on a separate fee themselves, or that VP is hoping to balance their fee costs (to sportsbase) by selling out more races and getting to keep those no-show fees?
Somehow I am guessing that this means that more and more of the heavily subscribed races are going to sell out earlier and earlier. I'm not knocking the idea of online registration, I do like it. Just pointing out possible pitfalls. None of this will affect me this coming season as I'm not able to race for the forseeable future due to a car accident last summer (me in car, not me on bike hit by car). Personally I hope that it works out well for everyone, from racers having an easier way to preregister for events, the registration team by having most of their entrants signing pre-printed entry forms on day of, and the organizers by giving them a steadier revenue stream.

A day that I'm on the bike is a good day.
Using SportsBase will also help them compile results easier-perhaps faster.
