Thanks to Velo Girls for a new race

Even though after I finished the race an official pointed out my number was on the wrong side (the side I was told to put it on), the Menlo Park race was nicely run, on time, relatively safe and fun. It's always great to see new venues opening up. Thanks, Velo Girls!

We've already put a lot of thought into fields for 2007. I won't say anything now because (as I mentioned earlier), we're women and will probably change out mind a bunch of times. However, we will likely continue to focus on women, masters (including a 40+ or 45+ race) and single category races. We will possibly increase the time for the 2s and 3s as well.
With all of the racing in our district, not every race can be everything to every racer.
Our registration numbers exceeded our expectations. For a first-year race, up against Copperopolis, on a rainy holiday weekend, we were thrilled to have almost 300 racers. We're sure not complaining. I anticipate that this race will just continue to grow with the positive experience racers had this year.

Category 2 races are nice, but at 45 minutes, its not long enough. The race was a lot of fun, I enjoyed racing there. Would have been better and count for upgrade points, if I believe, it is at at least 75 minutes.
You will see more rider participation if you extend more fields for next season. Granted this was a holiday weekend, so field size was small. Yeah Copper was also the same day, But that is a hilly RR. It is nice to have mulitple events on the same day (Road Races, Criteriums) Its a great thing to see that there is so much racing here in NorCal that we have those options!
I race for a club that hold two races each year; Cat's Hill, and Timpani Criterium. A couple of years ago at Timpani we increase the event to include, masters, women 1/2, and men 1/2 pro. That race day we had a great turnout of riders. Last season was our 3rd season doing that and we had a record rider turnout, and it was the day after the NCNCA RR championships. Great racing and a lot of thankful participants. Best decision we made to increase fields. Either way I will be back next year. Just thought to extend some advise as to improve it for next year.
Great to have some races that focus on the lower cats.
*Note At 45 min. for a crit, the Men 2 & Men 3 do not count for upgrade points. Just a good low key fun race...
At the current time there really aren't enough Cat 1/2 women to have decent sized fields at two different races on the same day. Right now we have just under 100 Cat 1/2 women in the area. ON any given race day the majority of riders in any given category will not race. Then when you divide the remaining riders between two events you will most likely end up with two very small fields.
The same could be said for Cat 1 men since there are less than 100 Cat 1 men. By having a Cat 2 only race you are giving Cat 2s a rare chance to earn upgrade points ( if the Min field size is met) without having to beat Cat 1 and Pro riders. I would think a lot of Cat 2 riders would prefer a Cat 2 only race a little more often.
Thank you for a good race. Nice course, close to home. I look forward to coming back next year.
Might I suggest next year adding Masters 1/2/3, Women 1/2 and making the Elite 2 a 1/2pro race. I would also increase the time to 75 minutes for the Elite 1/2 pro, and 50 minutes for the rest. Make for much more interesting racing.

Well, since we're a bunch of women, it's our perogative to change our minds (about the side for the number). Right? After we realized the wrong information had been given to some racers, I rode around letting guys know and even re-pinned about a dozen guys. This, of course, was one of the highlights of my morning, especially the AV guy who smelled so nice, but I digress.
Seriously though, thanks for coming out to race today and we hope to see many more of you in 2007!
