State Championships with a second race
Hi Everyone,
A quick poll to get some feedback from you.
We are working on the schedule for Masters District Criterium Championship, brought to you by Joseph Mendes Real Estate and Loans.
Thanks to the sponsorship from Joseph we are strongly considering having the last event of the day as a non-championship event for P/1/2/3 riders with a $1,500 cash and merchandise prize list and paying 20 deep. This would give all of the Masters holding a 3 and above license to do a second race and a race for Juniors and other Elite (non-Masters) to race.
Please also give us an idea of how long you would be willing to hang around for the last event. We are going to try and work the schedule so that it would not be too long.
Feedback of any kind is welcome.
Cheers,
Ron

Anyone else on the idea of a P/1/2/3 race?
Here is the logic behind the idea, and it's just a theory that I am in no way married to.
I believe that most of the field will be Masters riders from the 30, 35, 40, and even some 45 age groups that will be riding a second race. That said, you will already have raced with riders that are 3s. Many Masters in the 1/2/3s are 3s. I was myself up until late 2008.
My experience racing in 1/2/3 events, the EBs for nearly 10 years, has been that the 3s tend to race/ride better when they are in this field. Better than they do in an all 3 field.
With this in mind, and the fact that you will already have raced that day with 3s in the Masters Championship fields, the safety concern being raised might perhaps be exaggerated.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Ron
Fine ideas, DT. I was going to suggest a "reverse win & out" format, but I didn't want to put too many opinions into a single post for risk of clogging the region's plumbing.
I dig the RW&O format. (Winners of the final # of lap sprints are placed in that order; for example, sprint winner with 4 to go is 5th place, 3 to go is 4th place, etc...) Last year's Napa GP in that format had a THRILLING finale. The crowd loved it. I am considering running the entire race in RW&O format, assuming the City relents on our current road construction negotiations.
I also agree that the P123 is too broad, especially when you'll have such a huge field of 1/2's there racing for the jersey. Should be a fantastic race with everyone in top form.
A P123 Open will be a crash fest. too much disparity in ability, field familiarity, style, etc. A P12 event or some sort of cool format for masters would be better - Miss and Out? Points Race, etc. How about an Australian pursuit? maybe better for a RR.
Cool, keep it coming folks. We want to cater to you.
Ron
As I mentioned on Sunday, I think the final race should be a 30+ 1/2 race. You're going to have loads of 1's and 2's. Or maybe give advanced prereg to the 1/2's and see if it fills. No sense having pro's, since they don't race the districts.
