New Shop Sponsor for ChicoCorsa

So we got North Rim adventure sports as our new shop sponsor along with Pillsbury physical therapy as a new partner sponsor. I think some of the guys that were on the bicycleplus/Northrim team that are based in Chico are switching over. Not sure which riders though, were having a team meeting this friday to meet our new coach Mike Trowbridge (of aformentioned team).

AV used to be purple AND green. Trendsetters. I think in a few years we can go with camel and brushed nickel. And I hear argyle is making a bit of a comeback.

Sam Spade wrote:So besides Gregg "Just Big" Betonte, what macho superstar power have you added to the screamin' Sierra Nevada lineup?

Don't give us logo designs, give us the JUICE!!

We're just a bunch of old guys on bikes.

I'll lay it out a bit though - hopefully with the right spelling :D :
Jonathan Laine in the 45+ - won his first race in our kit at Patterson in 35+ 4/5s and rode awesome at the Chico RR
Greg Gambetta - comin over from Davis and did top 5 at Cascade - now Cat 2
Chris Bozutto from Spine - won Modesto RR in the 3s
Rob Cady from Spine - now Cat2 and whooped me a couple times in some 3s races.

So a lot more depth as we get a little more organized as a race team and move away from being a club.

Dan Bryant will be racing 35+ more vs. P12 and he's threatened to support us in some crits
Matt Rozek, Peter Allen, John Hancock and Rick Burns are all healthy again after tough injuries last season. Rick Bradley is moving up in age to support us geezers.

Not at liberty to discuss the sponsors yet, however Roy, Steve and Gregg have put a ton of work into it and our sponsors will be getting a great ROI. Stay tuned.

All in all we're pretty fired up for next season, learning a lot from each other, and ready to have some fun against the seeded favorites - bring it on!

Some tidbits

Not much Changing in Chico Land...yet. So far were working out additional sponsors and the new kit design, should be done by the 26th for voler. Same green, gold and black design but with some names rearranged. Cat 3 squad is looking strong. All our 4s who placed 2nd overall in the BAT have upgraded. So Mike Ricks (Win at Dunnigan, Elkhorn TT, District TT and Chico Crit), James Plummer (win at Yreka Crit, 2nd at Sea Otter), CJ Humphries (2nd overall in Cat 4 in BAR) join Mike Cordova (Me) and Jeff Galland (Win at Memorial day Crit and Chico Crit). We may also have one strong transfer from another team, but i cannot comment since he is still affiliated with another squad.

Don't worry - the team's been putting a ton of work into next season are finalizing a couple new sponsors, the kit etc. and will be making a big splash next season with a new site and more. The team roster is already set as far as I know, but you may check with Steve Griffiths. If you want to watch a lame video by our fearless leader, the roster is at the end of the video (griffociraptor.blogspot.com or the kirkpatty link on OV's blog) - new logo is at servicecourse.blogspot.com about a week ago. Maybe that'll chill the gossip.....

Don't worry Claire USAC will not let a second club join as a USAC member club if it has the same name of another club. Just make sure you keep your Nor Cal Velo USAC membership current ( ie renew the club's USAC membership shortly after Dec 1st) and there shuoldn't be any issues with another club trying to use the same name.

Joey O.? Who are you and would you please consider not using our team name (which has been in existence since 2002)?????

Yes, a doctor must sign the TUE and attest to the fact that the treatment that utilizes the drug is necessary.

Actually, as I found out, for albuterol (Salbutamol), one needs to submit an ATUE (abbreviated therapeutic use exemption), and use the UCI-specific version of that document.

all this info is available on usada's website in the DRO. its somewhat confusing as to what documents are necessary for which drugs, and the process definitely is not as straightforward as it could be.

Steve... on a roll! And yeah, certain sponsors like to cozy up to the decision makers. Targeted. Direct. One deal will easily cover it.

And if it's not too much trouble, maybe you can share a few berries from the cooler in late July and late August? :)

And Jonathan, if the doc will prescribe albuterol they can surely fill out a TUE at the same time, right?

So ... What's the gossip?

If you use Albuterol for asthma without a current TUE on file with USADA, you are using a banned substance. same goes for advair. both are commonly prescribed for exercise induced asthma.

The likelihood of you getting tested is minimal, but attend a national event or race in an NRC event and you could be.

Yeah, now we're talking! More business in weekend-warrior masters cycling, that's what we need, it's just not uptight enough already. But I'm remembering Gordon Gekko's advice in Wall Street..."Read Sun-tzu, The Art of War. Every battle is won before it is ever fought." What would GG do against better-sponsored competitors that merge into Cat1 mega-teams? Do up a powerpoint and find some money? Of course not!

Call the IRS hotline and rat out all you amateur-pro teams that aren't paying taxes or 1099-ing your riders! Yeah! Hard to train during an audit, and you can't spend money sitting in a frozen account!

"Hello, IRS tip line, I have something to report...and Helen bring me that Computrainer and another cigarette..."

Then...hit 'em again!...sue that brokerage firm for letting their IT guy give in to a bribe on a padded contract from the hottie rep from his bike-club sponsor! He was bought for what, a pair of Zipps and a few bloody marys at the VIP tent at the Tour of CA? Cheap date! Treble damages under RICO, sweet stash for the clubGG checking account!

Now the clincher! Use that stash for a hostile takeover of Velo Promo, Pilarcitos Prod. and Sea Otter LLC, and run all the masters races as Cat 2/3 (picked separately). Get thee to the pros, pros!!

Finally, a strategy for dominating the masters fields that doesn't involve banned substances (or training!). Treat it like a business and ask WWGGD. Silly me, up till now I've thought it was recreation.

So ... What's the gossip?

Two things JR.

1. We have a junior that we are supporting to go to Development Camps and Nationals if she wants. Our title sponsor is making that possible.

2. Would be happy to support more Juniors and Women, but they didn't want to join our club. Out of my control.

3. You are missing the marketing side of why a Tech company would support Masters racing. It's a demographic of tech savvy movers and shakers in Northern California, people who are decision makers at large corporations who are likely to choose a company like InfoVista and/or EMC for some of their network solutions.

Example, one of our club members works for a large brokerage firm as an IT person, due to the relationship between a sponsoring software company and that rider a 7 figure business transaction was made. You think that software company made a good investment? You bet! They likely spend more than what they put into the team just taking potential clients out to dinner.

If we were anywhere else in the country this model for sponsorship probably wouldn't work. In tech savvy Northern California it can be the difference of the million dollar sale going to a competitor.

A cycling team has the potential of being a marketing firm. Run your organization like a business and think marketing. It's all about the demographics. Back end B to B deals are made all the time.

Step away from the box!

À tout le monde, À tous mes amis

I was waiting to see if this thing would gain any steam.

Joey O. has set out on his own and started a new smaller club that will go under the EMC name. Generic club name is Nor Cal Velo.

What was EMC/Vellum will now be known as InfoVista Cycling Team. Generic club name same as it always was, East Bay Cyclists.
The new title sponsor was a second tier sponsor from last year and has stepped up their support. It's a great fit, and they have a very cool web like icon in the logo that fits right in with the Spidey look.

Since all of our Masters 1s and 2s pretty much all went over to Joey's team we may most likely be seen slinging our webs in the 3s until Casey throws us out.

Looks like we will have some riders whooping it up in the 45s and 55s as well.

I heard no more Safeway, no more Spine. New teams, combined teams. Slugger, Sluggo's, the Slugged. It's going to be exciting in the 35/45's for 2008. Does AMD ride it's age or do they get stronger by riding down? The forum has been dead so let the gabbin' begin.
