There are some close contests for the Cycles Falcon Top Sprinter Award in its inaugural year. Some of them do prove that the series is as much about consistency as it is about sprinting speed.

Check out the latest results at: http://www.cyclesgladiator.com/TopSprinterAward

In the 45's, it's Gregg Betonte still. But his comfortable margin has now been trimmed by the mid-season heroics of Rich Juarez. With wins for each of them this past weekend, they should remain very close.

In the 35's, Joel Robertson has taken the lead from an injured Chad Gerlach, with Matt Carinio and Jan Weissenberger barking at his tail.

Yahoo has three of the top four spots with Parnes, Bosch and Mooney, but Rand Miller is a green streak in among the purple.

For the women, Emily Kachorek keeps building the points, leaving Olivia Dillon in the wings.

The Elite 3's are interesting because Ryan Gadow, a junior, is threatening to take the wine (for Dad) from Robert Skinner and leader Frank Spiteri.

For the other categories, check the web page.

WINNER OF EACH CATEGORY WILL BE PRESENTED ON THE PODIUM OF THE FOLSOM CYCLEBRATION WITH A CASE OF PREMIUM CYCLES FALCON WINE AND A CUSTOM "TOP SPRINTER 2010" RACING JACKET FROM PACTIMO!!!

SHAKING OUT THE TOP SPRINTER

Following the Dash For Cash weekend, some of the races are getting very very tight.

http://www.cyclesgladiator.com/TopSprinterAward

In the Pro/1/2 Elites, Ryan Parnes has separated himself from Bosch and Miller with some stellar performances.

Jan Weissenberger and Joel Robertson are tied for the lead in the masters.

For the Women Pro/1/2's it's the Emily and Lauren show. (Anyone watching the competitive energy at the Dash For Cash would know that already.)

In the 45's, Rich Juarez is making big moves up the ladder while Betonte has been working the camera at Philly and TOC. He has nearly caught him. With several big out-of-state races on Gregg's agenda including Superweek and Nationals, Rich could have the advantage.

Everythings's a bunch in the 3's, where a lot of guys are wondering how Cycles Falcon points equate in terms of forced upgrades ... Time will tell....

Honestly, Joel, the "Top Flyer" thing was really cute, but it just didn't have the same impact on the custom jackets as the designation
"Top Sprinter, 2010." So we changed it.

It was along the lines of "Most Aggressive Racer" versus "Uninhibited Racer" on the back of the new hats.

As a technical matter, it's really not "Top Sprinter" either - it should be "Most Consistent and Constant Top Finisher."
That's what Betonte tells me. La la la .... It's just like the Tour, right, so it has to be kosher.

I guess the fact that you (in the old guys) and Rand (in the kids) are top contenders kind of proves it's not ALL about top-end speed ....
