Sea Otter and SportsBaseOnline - Strike Two?
Tue, 04/11/2006 - 3:42pm
I know SportsBaseOnline was responsible for athlete registration at Sea Otter but were they also responsible for the results too? The results in many fields were totally screwed up despite the fancy chips and high entry fees and placed lapped riders ahead of the true winners. If SportsBaseOnline was responsible for this, that would be strike two after the mess at McLane. Here's how to contact them: "Athlete Support: The whole SportsBase Online Team take [sic] great pride in our customer support. During the hours of 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM MST response time usually occurs within 15 minutes. You can email us [www.sportsbaseonline.com] or phone us at 1-801-699-5126."

Another shout-out to SBO for helping with our registration AND handling all of the results compilation for our event.
They were superb under pressure when they had to determine if Fraser, Cruz, Jones or Dominguez won our criterium (and the omnium), with all of the riders and managers standing around itching to get to the airport and head out of town. And trust me those guys and their managers did not want to wait more than three minutes to have it all figured it out.
Kudos to Dirk and staff for bringing a new and innovative level of automation, technology, and event management to a sport overflowing with lots of "technical" garbage.

SBO is doing our online registration for the Tri-Flow Menlo Park Grand Prix and they've been fabulous to work with. We get personal attention and they've taken good care of us. I've done one other event with them and also had a positive experience.

Hold the phone there lil' old me!
Sports Base Online did not do the results for Sea Otter! Registration yes! Back up finish line camera on the road events yes! But not results! We did compile the results after they were "official" and publish them to the web.
Keep in mind that results for 8000+ athletes is no easy task...I can assure you as someone who works behind the sceens that all involved were working very hard to get it all done and get it done right.
Please before you type away and slander someones name get your facts straight.

One thing to consider is that there were probably 3 sets of the results. There was the results generated by the Chip timing company. Then there were the results generated by the video Tech company ( SBO) and then there were the results of the human officials. In an ideal situation after each group finished the 3 sets of results were given to the Chief Judge who combined all the information into a single set of results. Who knows which version of the results are the ones that were posted online or which version was used for prize presentations. Before any results are posted the chief judge should at least sign off on the results. Then again this has been a problem in the past at Sea Otter ( ie results being posted before any of the officials getting a chance to look at them).
