Celebrating early with a wave of guys sprinting on your flanks seems foolish at best. But when you beat the pack by half a football field, I don't see what the big deal is.

You mean Brice Jones, not Dave McCook. And for the record it was only one arm, not two.

here's the start of entire sequence, in case you want to see what happened. the series of following pictures show what happens.

How many times do we have to see the celebration/disappointment photos of Zabel-Friere before we decide it's just foolish to celebrate before the line?

Celebrate once the victory is won. Do a mambo on the scorer's table. Go all night. Just restrain yourself for one more split-second so you don't end up watching the party from the window.

If he DIDN'T throw his hands up at the end of this race, I would think there was something wrong with him.

This course was brutal, and to win with that margin took some effort. Keep in mind about half the field was shelled before the lap cards came out.

I had gutted it out with the top five guys through the whole race, only to throw a chain on the last hill, on the last lap, as I was gearing up to attack Mr. No-Sponsor. My reaction was, let's say, colorful. I think I broke a number of racing rules, like throwing my helmet/bike/glasses, loud cursing, etc. And there were officials close by, but I was in such agony that they opted to let me sit in silence on the sidewalk there.

Not behavior I'm proud of, but I just wanted to show that this wasn't really your everyday, casual Cat 4 crit. You had to dig deep to finish in the front like that. And I think it's pretty cool that the winner was "unattached." Kudos to him.

You guys are harsh. It is a Cat. 4 race! Like the guy was even thinking about showing off a sponsor. Who cares! He just won a race. He is happy. Unless there are some secret UCI pros hiding out here, most of us are racing for fun. Our "sponsors" get their coverage by people looking at our jerseys as we roll up and down Foothill or where ever else we ride and can be seen. Unless Cycling News starts publishing photos of the Cat. 4 Industrial Waste Criterium winners, the only people seeing these sponsors on jerseys are other racers.

Updated Results/Photos

Hello

A couple new things on the results page:

* Listed the field sizes for each race
* Cleaned up a few pics (including the 4s finish ;-)
* Swapped out the Women's Pro finish (I had the wrong photo in there)

Thanks!

No hands please

I don't think it was unsafe in the least bit. I thought the rule was kinda over the top in the first place(although I understand why it was there).

My bad for not completly reading the rule book to see that they dropped the rule, but thanks to Casey I/ we all know it no longer is valid hooray! We can all now do our best Cipo' imatation's across the finish line.

For the record I can ride quite well "no hands" that includes peddling through turns and drinking H2O @ the same time

look at the photo - he's 10m ahead of the next guy. you don't actually think that's dangerous do you? please please say no.

If you do...maybe YOU need to go practice riding no-hands, you need to be able to do it if you want to become a bike racer someday. ever take off a shell on a descent? put it back on? etc

There use to be such g a rule ( but it involved taking the hands off the bars in a close sprint and it covered all categories) but that rule was removed from the rule book a few years ago.
