A new feature added to the Wente Road Race.
I hope they survived the rush of surprised Cat. 3 racers
that descended on them as they were frolicking in the middle of the road.
Yikes!

There are many ways to avoid going down in a cat 3 race:
1) bunny hop a curb, rider or bike ( I've done all three)
2) ride around or under a barrier
3) be at the front setting tempo or in a break
4) anticipate the problem areas or riders and avoid them
5) don't demand a line that doesn't exist.
BUT ABOVE ALL, DON'T PANIC!!!!!
Cone = Small brightly colored rubbery traffic device that is typically semi-stationary and placed 10' to 20' On Center. Advantages include, space around the cone for easy maneuverability of small 2 wheel human powered vehicles.
In other words, a minor adjustment of trajectory will yield a path around this benign obstacle. In a worse case scenario a direct collision is most likely to result in just running the thing over and a minor inconvenience for the course marshal to move it back into place.

Man, I'm glad everyone got around the pooches safely -- for the dogs' sake, I have to say (something about relatively innocent parties...).
Was right there for P's crash: he was coming up on the cones in the road -- which, one is tempted to add, did not actually move on their own from lap to lap -- and yelled "cones!", slammed on his brakes, and was rear-ended by the poor fellow who was right behind him. It sounded bad; was glad to see them both up and around after the race. Kids, don't slam on brakes!
And props both to the Penn Velo guy who rolled away from the straggler group -- sorry I was skeptical about going for it -- and to the Eastside guy who motored the shallow part of the last climb and pulled off with a "sorry, that's all you get."
Mr. "Don't worry about me" who then countered in the last hundred or so meters, not so much.
Disappointing race personally, but well-run and good riding from the 3 field!

From my vantage point, the E3 race had pretty good bike handling though. Things were generally smooth, with a lot of thanks owed to Eastside and IC3 for lining up at the front and hammering when the pace bogged down.
We do what we can. Fast races are safer - and a hell of a lot more fun!
Shame about Petro crashing, but dood does seem to have an affinity for rolling around with his bike. Hope he's OK.
I have to agree on the pretty good bike handling, except for the face plant accident. Not sure what happened there.
From what I saw, the labrador was wagging his tail and having a great old time. The little Toto looking guy, not so much...
I didn't hear any reports of dog damage that day, just people damage (especially under the railroad bridge).
