Posting of results

I scoured the official rulebook for any guidance, but came up empty (https://www.usacycling.org/forms/RdTrkCx_rulebook.pdf).
Is there any official requirement to post results beyond the prize list at the conclusion of the event? In other words, if the prize list went 6 places deep, but you wanted to find out if you got any valuable upgrade points after finishing in the 7th-10th places...you'd likely want to hang around and confirm the result just in case there was a mix-up--you have that 15 minute protest period to straighten things out. Yet, the race you entered only posts the top-6 who get prizes leaving those riders who "think" they got in that top 10 wondering and hopeful until who-knows-when they get posted online.

Sports Base Online has just finished testing and has launched the new version of SBO RaceDay It is available for all of the Event Directors using SBO for online registeration. This now includes a built-in USAC database allowing for easy, quick day of race add-ins using the athlete's USAC license numbers. You also have the abilty to add in results and with the latest addition to RaceDay- a fast, simple way to convert the results into the USAC National rankings file. This is a quick way to turn around results and get them posted. Anyone who would like to try a sample of the software can send us a email at dcowley@sportsbaseonline.com and we will send it over to you. Thanks, Dirk

Kalen - I do understand the issue and just read way too much into your post - sorry.
I think promoters should post all results available, especially if they affect point series, upgrades, etc.
No, you still don't get it, not even close. It doesn't have anything to do with how long it takes them to get the results up. I'm not complaining about the time it takes to post the results...read my post. I have no problem waiting for them to do their jobs; I know first hand the challenges involved. I was inquiring about how far they post the results and hopefully inspiring change by bringing light to the fact that the riders beyond that pay spot also have a vested interested in the outcome...in this specific example, posting to the 10th spot.
I understand your point just fine and agree with you that it would be nice not to wait at all after a race, but c'mon, if your're a cat 2 then you've been around long enough to understand the results posting issues - not all promoters are gonna have em up in 15 minutes.
Hey, the profile on the side of everyones post says you are all Cat. 5's! If only forum categories mapped to real world categories, then I would crush you all!
IN General the officials will give what ever results they have to the promoter who then posts the results both at the race and online. The officials will generally try to place as many people as possible. In some cases ( like when fields really break up) the officials may send down what ever results they have to the promoter so that the prize positions can be awarded, and then send down more complete results later. THis type of thing will normally happen at a road race like Paterson Pass where field can really break up with large gaps between even the top places.
IN some cases I think riders need to adjust their expectation about how quickly results can be posted. For example at University this past weekend. IN all the waves we had multi races on the course at once. In the first wave it wasn't bad since one of the groups finished well before the second group. In the other two waves you have 2 or 3 groups going about the same distance which means that all the groups finished about the same time. In these cases the officials have to figure out who the lapped riders are, then note the lapped riders on the raw finish order, then break out the raw finish order into the placings for each race and then write out the results and send them to registration. This can take from 10 to 20 minutes depending on how many riders there were in total for that wave and how much lapping was going on. for the second wave at University I was about 1/2 way through the process of getting results to registration when I started getting calls from registration wondering where the results were. Of course the whole process gets slowed down even more when riders individually come up to the officials and ask how they placed while the officials are working on the results process.
In short it takes some time to get the results out, especially for road races where there are multi groups finishing within a short period of time. If you need to rush away from the race site to make another appointment then have a friend or teammate check the results for you. Unless the officials tell you ahead of time, or if they are calling out for riders to check in you don't have to ask the officials if they got your number. Remember even if we have your number on the raw finish order ( which normally doesn't indicate what your place is) we can miss your number when writing out the results resulting in you not showing up in the results. Normally the best thing riders can do after a race with a complicated finish is head back to Reg and wait for the results to be posted and verify your result there. If the promoter doesn't post the complete results for some reason then you can go back to where the officials are, wait for a time when the officials aren't busy ( normally when they are not working on results and when no one is crossing the finish line) and ask how you placed.
I'm not sure how to respond to that last post...I think you missed the point I was trying to make. By posting to the places that provide (in this case) CalCup points and/or upgrade points, it saves the racers from mingling around bothering the officials behind the table and gives those same racers an opportunity to dispute and accidental mis-placings.
Thanks for the wisdom on what to expect when I upgrade...LOL. Not sure where you're coming from or what makes you think I'm a cat 4.
The results posting has improved substantially from last year from what I remember. Yeah, I think they should get the top 10 up pretty quick and most do, but not always. What can you expect for a $23 entry fee though? It's never going to be perfect and every sport has it's timing and results issues. Check out the Sea Otter post where the subject was beaten to death (two years in a row....) and that's a high $$ entry fee race that's never been good at getting results up.
As far as upgrade points are concerned - unless the field size is 60+ under the alternative scoring method you don't get any points for 7th and it drops off pretty quick (1 point for 10th in field of 100). And if you are looking for a specific number of top 10s (10 tops 10s for 4 to 3) for the upgrade then its probably gonna be a tough road in the 3s and one more race really wouldn't hurt you. And if the upgrade is really that important then you just have to wait it out - many of us have been there too.
