I did know the answers to those questions. How about these March 2011 questions: Who is the only category 3 junior female on the road? How about on the track?

Ideas for Promoters holding Junior races...

First, thanks to Eric and anyone else involved in the Salinas Junior Crit.... We will get a bunch of our kids there...

Second... given the demographics that George listed.... and how the adult races work...

What about these ideas for junior categories at crits ??

Junior 4/5
Junior 1/2/3
(junior women 3s should be able to race down in the junior 4/5s if they want to race/be picked with the guys.... and jr women aside from that racing down exception can always be picked seperately)

Easy... you have 2 races (or 3 or 4 if you wanted women's races too) .. and the 4s and 5s get to ride/race together, try to execute teamwork (as most junors are coached to do) at a level where they have a chance to do it, a chance to execute... where the race doesn't just turn into survival...

And, of course all the 1/2/3s could race together...

If a rider is a 4 or a 5, regardless of age... they probably aren't that strong... so age shouldn't matter that much...

Last year, our team, promoting the junior state crit championship, we had all of the normal age groups required for the championship, but we also added a Junior 4/5s race. We had some positive feedback from it... and we had A LOT of juniors in it, and it was fairly competitive.

I don't see how we expect to grow the sport or get more kids involved when a lot of new jrs are 16 or 17, and not all that strong, they show up, get their butts kicked racing against a bunch of 2s and 3s.. and get discouraged.... sure a few will tough it out, but why structure it so it's discouraging in the first place ???

Sure there is a place for the normal age group races... like say, the Junior points series..etc... but I'd bet if we got a maybe 10-15 races a year that had a Junior 4/5 field, I bet they would become pretty popular....

Junior Trivia ( George Please don't answer this)

There were only 4 juniors that finished the 2010 season as CAT1 on the road, and only one Cat1 on the track! Who were they?

There were only 18 juniors that finished the season on the road as CAT2 on the road, and only 4 that were CAT2 on the track! Who were the 4 CAT2 juniors on the track?
