Yay!

The MTB and Road Nationals are pretty much smack dab on identical days this year (for geezers, anyway). Does this seem silly to anyone else?

Does anyone have insight as to why they (USAC) would choose to host two National Championship events during the same week ... and on opposite sides of the country?

I guess it only effects a few of us who like to ride all disciplines of the sport.

Roadie scum!

Dirty mudbag!

The short answer is I don't know what process was used.

My best guess is there wasn't enough time to go through a formal bid process. I assume they wanted to give as much advanced notice as possible about the new location so people could change their travel plans ( or make them). USAC probably approached those promoters who either had a big event already scheduled, or who USAC felt capable of putting an event together in the amount of time they had.

Hey Casey ~ quick question.

Was there a request put out (nationally) to promoters for emergency bids to replace the previous Nationals site?

In all the press releases I saw from USAC ... I didn't read anything about soliciting bids from promoters. The tone was more, 'we're reviewing sites and we'll announce.'

Was there a request put out?

What media would be best for such a request?

Did they want bids to come in?

any other info on how USAC gathered a pool of potential replacement hosts would be cool,
thanks,
mhernandez

As you know the original venue for NORBA national will still be under snow when the originally scheduled date rolls around. USAC had hoped to keep the NORBA Nationals on their originally scheduled date. I guess they were having problems finding another venue that could do everything required to host the nationals. Remember this is national so there is a fair amount of Prep work that needs to be put together. Especially things like securing permits to use a venue if you are talking about an unscheduled venue. Also you would have to find a willing promoter. In order to keep the Nationals as close as possible to the original date they took the best option available. I'm sure no one in Co Springs is really happy with the situation but they probably felt this was better than moving the date several months later and having athletes who were building to a peak for the original Nationals date have their training program thrown off. Also I'm not sure what international date conflicts there might be that played a role in dictating when nationals had to be.

And on the weekend of Cascade.

3 Major events all on the same weekend. I guess the pie is getting pretty big.

Not to mention, Cougar Mt. was a qualifier for MTB Nationals. Nice, California's get punked again, now in our own back yard.

Don't these folks all work in the same damn building? One would think they talk once in a while.

NORBA: "Hey Roadie Dude, you have anything scheduled on ____ weekend?"

USCF: "Yeah, like Masters and Junior Nationals bro. Why?"

NORBA: "Oh because we are going to give the Country 60 days notice that we are changing the venue location and date."

USCF: "Good luck with that."
