Mt. Ashland Hillclimb this Sun. 24th

This race starts in downtown Ashland. It's about 45min. past Mt. Shasta so 5-6 hrs. from the Bay.

Tougher than Shasta, this one has a 20 min flat / downhill run-in to the start of the 15 mile 4800 ft. climb. This is a mass start event with 75+ starters though this year may be bigger as it's the Oregon state hill-climb championships...
OBRA does a one day and will honor your USCF cat.

The climbing starts off at 5-7% and is on a curvy, forested, somewhat rough road. Fairly consistant with a couple of flater spots....
The upper section (last 9mi. or so) is more open on smooth pavement. It probably averages 7% with a couple of kickers up to 10%... Not as consistant a climb as Shasta so it favors a more pure climber than a power climber.
2 to 2.5 hrs. from Redding is correct...
I have reviewed the description by the local bike club on the climb as a 6% average climb.
If Shasta was 5-7%, can you give a brief discussion on the differences? Gearing, grades/percentage climb, etc.? I know the bigger difference is the 10-mi initial rolling terrain "run-in", but give us some feedback on the 15-mi climb itself.
I was also told it was a 2-3 Hr. drive from Redding (my motel location considered).
Thanks!
