A minor downside of online registration
Fri, 07/11/2008 - 8:18am
Registered for a race as soon as reg opened X weeks ago.
Race is this Saturday, but I had a family obligation come up. Hoping I could get a refund I (flyer doesnt mention policy):
-Emailed tuesday morning to email on Flyer. No response.
-Emailed yesterday to email on sportsbaseonline. No response (as of yet).
Not a big deal and thankfully not going to break me financially, but a little frustrating.
Really, the only other things I can think of are:
-Eat the fee (but post here & vent)
-Show up at race and talk to reg there (but if I could make it there, I would race)
-Contact Visa

This has nothing to do with the particulars of online registration. Pre-registering for races has been around for 30+ years, and it is extremely rare to get your money back-that's an implied part of the cost/benefit and risk/reward of pre-registering. If there's no refund policy mentioned then it's safe to assume there is a no-refund policy.
Dirk, I will call.
btw, I wasn't calling out promoters or anything I figured something unexpected was going on, not malicous. I was trying to highlight some bumps in the road of planning/registering early to secure a spot (although it seems like this time of year things aren't selling out as quickly as earlier).

Your best bet was to contact the promoter directly, explain your situation and ask for a refund. They may or may not grant it.
