This Saturday (11 Nov): Bohlman

This Saturday, the Low-Key Hillclimbs get, well, a bit steep as we tackle Bohlman-On Orbit-Bohlman out of Saratoga, CA. Rain cancels, while for wet roads, we're considering taking a scenic but shorter alternative. Check the web site for more info, results, links to photos, etc:

The Low-Key Hillclimb results for week 4, Highway 9, are posted!

http://lowkey.djconnel.com/

Petro Hizalev (Webcor/Alto Velo) launched an impressive attack as the lead group approached Redwood Gulch, leaving other riders looking at each other, knowing there was absolutely no way to follow. He held on for an impressive win in 30:54, and moving into #1 in the men's standings.

Among the respectable turnout of 7 women, Cheryl Hennessy (team: Velo Bella) was fastest on the day, followed by Stephanie Gruszunski and Kelly Kasik.

Impressively, Western Wheelers is leading the team standings. The touring club is showing the racing clubs how it's done.

Christine Holms leads the "most improved rider" standings, while Adam Tow has taken the lead endurance standings, having done all four climbs so far in the series.

Next up: Bohlman-On Orbit-Bohlman. This is a steep one, folks...

The Low-Key Hillclimb Series of 2006 continues with Highway 9 out of Saratoga, CA:

The latest forecast is for only a 10% chance of light rain, so things look excellent for the 10am climb. We'll carry jackets, fenders, etc to the top for you if things are wet. In the odd chance it IS raining, we'll do a shorter ersion, so don't worry about the weather.

Results, more info:

http://lowkey.djconnel.com/

And, still in progress, I'm rebuilding some old results, which I'd thought were lost, but we're digging out of the nooks and crannies of the 'net:

http://lowkey.djconnel.com/1996/

(1997-1998 still to come, I hope)

Please come, invite your friends, invite their friends.... we're especially interested in getting more women and juniors to come out. There was a strong increase in women's turn-out last week, while junior Menso de Jong took over the lead in the "men's" standings! (and 14-year old Beau Hoover climbed Diablo on a unicycle!!!)

Juniors ride for free!

See you there, I hope....

Summit Rd. Repaved

FYI:

That picture of someone climbing the wall at the top of Mt. Diablo is from before the repaving. The road from the junction to the summit has been completely repaved this summer and the surface is now excellent! I hope there are a lot of low-key participants next Saturday.
