Looking for Masters Racers
Thu, 12/15/2005 - 10:07pm
We have started a new Masters Team in San Luis Obispo. We are looking for 1 or maybe 2 more riders to join us. Qualified Riders would be 35+ and Category 1-3, team players(not just riding for own goals but willing to work for others) and able to race a minimum of 10 races with the team.
We also have great benefits such as clothing, race reimbursement, bike shop deep discounts, and other great stuff.
If interested please post your interest and contact info. I will be checking this post regularly.
Thanks........

You are not going to get kids involved if you expect Lance and other Pro cyclist to be the only roll models.
Kids are interested in what their parents are interested in "I want to be like Dad and win races".
By supporting Masters racing, you will indirectly support new juniors into the sport.
Kids don't just wake up and say, I want to race a bike. Too many other distractions that are easy.

You are giving this stuff to a Masters Team? They probably all have high paying jobs and don't need that. Silly...
SUPPORT A Junior / U23 Team with that kind of stuff.
I think the assumption behind this assertion is that there is zero sum game behind the sponsorship(s) of bike clubs with different goals.
I help teach a free clinic for kids where the only barrier to entry is showing up and paying for parking and most folks can't get past that barrier. The only thing more I could do at this point is pay families to show up. The one place where there actually is a zero sum game is the amount of money/time *parents and kids* can dedicate to a sport. This is where cycling loses because the the money and time required to excel or just not get humiliated is so much higher than most other sports, and there are only so many activities a child can partake, and cycling is probably not the best way to socialize with other kids/teens.

Why is it that everyone assumes a Masters rider has a high paying job and does not need support for racing? Not all Masters riders make 6 figure income.
Also, it is no easy task getting sponsorhip and organizing a team. It is a ton of hard work and if you desire to get support. Nobody is stopping you from putting together a Junior/ U23 team.
