Who were top 3 for P12 race?
It was a great, well done race as usual.
However, a bit under attended. Fields were small compared to last year.
And, how did the race actually go?
I did not realize that I was that unclear that everybody misunderstood what I meant.
The complaint is that we were charged an extra $10.00 for preregistering online after July 4th.
Because I had to already pay an extra $10.00 for the one race I chose not to race a second race. The fee of the second race was not a factor, it was that I was charged a late entry fee while not technically being late.
I still preregistered which makes the promoters job easier on the day and less cash for the people at registration to have to handle. I and others that preregistered after July 4th should not be penalized. It's not a standard in the district, and it's a great way to bring the race down. You might even have driven some away.
I am all for the extra fee for same day registration, there is more work involved and some hassle. But I don't recommend penalizing people who are still doing something in a way that helps the promoter in the long run.
I registered two people, myself and Marc Prutton. That means I paid an extra $20.00, unduly.
Refunding the extra charge to those who preregistered (regardless of when)would be the right thing to do. It would be a shame to leave a negative stain on such a great race.

The flyer says "Online reg. closes July 9 at 11:59 pm pacific" (i.e., the very end of today, Friday, July 9, local time), but SBO closed online registration at "2010/07/09 03:00 EST" (i.e., the very start of today, Friday, July 9, local time). The flyer doesn't say that there's an additional, additional charge for day-of registration, so it looks like those of us who waited won't pay more than we would have yesterday for online reg if we're willing to take the chance that we'll be able to reg at the site. Still, it would be nice if SBO matched up to the flyer.
I dunno if this is what Ron is complaining about but SBO was charging the full amount for multiple races in contradiction with the website. I assumed this was because I tried to sign up too late the other night, and that if I had planned ahead and registered before 9pm it would have been correct.
Ron,
I was unaware there were extra fees for extra races. I will ask the race director about this.

Big fan of the race, not a big fan of being charged an extra $10.00 when I am still pre-regging online. Not cool.
Thus one of the reasons I won't do two races that day.
I would encourage the promoters to refund the increase to those who registered online. It would be the right thing to do.

Fudge, I gave up before midnight, next year!
If you paid an extra $10 before midnight PST on July 4th, please arrive early to resolve issue at registration.
Sorry for the mix up.

The website says we can register without penalty until midnight on July 4, but SBO uses EST, which works for all those racers coming from the East coast...
Ron likes this.
It's one of those courses with only 1 good line through 7 of the 8 turns so it forces the pelaton to be strung out. After 15 minutes of this the field starts to crack as riders have trouble with the pace. There is nowhere to hide unless the pace is slow. A rider can take this course into their own hands and make the race. Plus there is enough money and prizes to motivate hard racing. A great weekend for the P/1/2 men and women to double up..San Rafeal and Lodi for good money. So, any local pros and all the fast guys should be here to put money in their pocket. After doing neutral 1 zillion times, I like more interesting racing to watch vs. rolling in a circle for an hour and then sprint.
I know it is technical in the sense it has many turns in the hour-glass course, but what else makes it "hard"? Wind? Terrain? I plan on racing, so I'd love to know what to expect (I like the idea of unlikely field sprints as I lack top end speed!).
It is a fun and very hard race...a strong man/woman crit course. I think only one or two races came to a field sprint last year. Most races ended in breaks with the strongest riders there in the end. The course is in old town Lodi with a very cool atmosphere. I say it is one of my top five races of the year.
