Promoters, what on-line registration systems have you been using and are you happy with that system? I've just about had it with SBO at this point and have a HUGE volume of business to bring to the right system (our race, membership, and all of our clinics). I'd really like to know what works and what doesn't for the rest of you.

I have only used bikereg from the promoter's side. It is easy to use and set up. Managing racers (refunds, changing categories) is easy as is creating bib numbers. You can also add merchandise easily. Not sure how to handle a second race discount, but their tech support is responsive and I am sure they have this figured out.

I would never use active as their fees are high, not very user friendly from the rider's perspective, and they spam you.

registratio

I have done several of the races doing registraion and results.

I have used Active and SportsBaseOnline. From a registration setup, they were both fairly easy to use, IF you had planned ahead exactly what races and times.

Active for registration worked ok, used other methods for results.

SBO always seems to have a number of bugs, they are responsive but need better controls prior to releases. Based on the time needed for most events to get results posted, there are some usability issues.

But all of the online systems are beter than when it was all done by hand, and you had to snail mail your entry.

Race Promoters -- Feedback

okay, steering back to my original question please.

Promoters, what on-line registration system are you using? Pros? Cons?

While I'm at it, how many clubs use on-line membership registration? What system are you using for that?

Has anyone had experience with Bob Mack's new registration system?

SportsBaseOnline

I wanted to take a minute to address the posting here. Sports Base Online has been the online registration service provider for the NCNCA over the last four years and we appreciate the racers and the event directors for using our services. About 18 months ago, after much discussion with many users, SBO undertook a redesign and build of our website. The new site was launched about six months ago and we had hoped for a seamless transition from the old to the new site. Unfortunately, it has not been as smooth as we would have liked it to be.

The intent of the redesign was to enhance the system and provide improved tools for event directors to mange their events and their athlete information. Event directors can now use the Integrated Athlete Management System (IAMS) to move riders from one category to another and manage riders withdrawing from events. We have added a new tool to create waiting lists that will move riders when a space becomes available and automatically email them. Another tool will automatically create a second field when the first field fills. The new site still has all of the tools for assigning bib numbers, printing pre-populated USAC release forms, financial reporting and generating Excel registration reports, all of which have been enhanced and updated. Simultaneously, we have continued to make improvements to the RaceDay software program to provide an integrated system for onsite registration and results management at no additional cost. We have also continued to cultivate regional SBO registration staff to assist event directors with onsite registration and results management. This includes Ken Hernandez in the NCNCA area.

Our main goal for athletes is still fast and easy registration. Athletes have access to see other registered athletes and to review and update their profile. New tools for the athletes include the ability to manage team names across all disciplines, i.e., road, cross country, etc. and add and remove themselves from waiting lists. The ability to manage friends, view registrations and print invoices is still available. More tools are anticipated over the next few months.

We have always taken pride in our customer service for both athletes and event directors. On average for NCNCA we handle 50 to 70 category changes and registration requests per week as well as an additional 100 emails with race inquiry questions. SBO always listens to and appreciates feedback from athletes and event directors, which is the reason the new site was developed.

This weekend we made a very large software update that addressed many of the requests from feedback we have received. The biggest one was to move back to http://www.sportsbaseonline.com. Labor Day weekend has historically been one of the slowest registration periods, which is why the updates were loaded. We did not anticipate that these uploads would cause any interruption in service on the old site and apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.

The new SBO has given me headaches, whereas BikeReg hasn't. It also has sort options that are easy to use. I'd like the bib numbers to be listed for those who have preregistered, so that one could identfy an individual within a team of riders. The new SBO doesn't do that anymore.

We've used SBO and had great success. Dirk has been fantastic with support. No experience with the new format from a promoter's perspective. As a techno-phobe, I have my doubts.

BikeReg, as a consumer was decent. Not flashy, signed me up just as advertised.

Active.com, however, stinks. Of all the registration systems I have used, this is by far the worst. No access to needed information regarding registration numbers, excessive subscriptions to 'other services'. I 'active'-ly avoid races which use active.com, I dislike the service so much.

Hope that helps,
James
