Is there a juniors team that is located in the the Hayward area, or this part of Alameda County? There is someone in our neighborhood that has an interest in racing, and I'd like to be able to refer him to a more or less local team. The only one that comes to mind is Tieni Duro, but my (possibly wrong) impression is that they are more Contra Costa County-focused.

Thanks!

yup

There is a new JR team based in the east bay between oakland and fremont. NRL Racing is a Junior U18 and U23 development cycling team, fueling enthusiastic bicycle racers from the SF Bay Area, specifically from the East Bay. We have racers ranging from beginner mountain bikers to dedicated road racers. The team focuses on Road, Track, XC and DH Mtn, BMX and any other form of two wheel HPV racing and competition. All levels are welcome to join on the basis that they dedicate themselves to bringing the best out of their potential. My friend and I started the team after we decided that we were dissatisfied with Tieni Duro and having to drive all the way to Walnut Creek to ride with them. A local Biotech company helped us get established and we have earned sponsorship with Cytomax, Rudy Project, Montano Velo who brought us Giant and Continental. Our relations with Montano has brought us very valuable mentoring from local Cat 1's such as Dennis Guikema and Jamiel Danish of RH VIlla. The way our team works unlike, say, Tieni Duro, is that if you prove yourself to be consistent regardless of race results you will get full support. That means that if you ride your bike like 3 days a week and make it out to races consistently you get the full shebang unlike other teams that give all the support to an "elite" team. We want to help riders develop and we think that is most possible in a chill, low key, fun environment. Check out the website http://nrlracing.org/ or go to Eden bicycles in Castro Valley on sunday between 12-5 or thursday/friday 4-7 cuz thats where I work.
