Help with CHP Investigation of John Peckham's death

For those of you who haven't yet heard, one of Alto Velo's top racers and club members, John Peckham, was tragically killed by a drunk driver on Friday, Sept. 8, 2006. This occurred as John was riding to the Noon Ride on Old Page Mill Road in Palo Alto. John was a fantastic person, a talented bike rider, and had a big heart; he will be sorely missed by many.

I've been asked by the CHP officer investigating John Peckham's case to
forward a request for information. The DA would like to have as much information as possible regarding the behavior of the driver before and after the incident. Their case is already a strong one, but there might be information out there that could bolster the case against him and put him away for good.

Here is a description of the vehicle and driver: Older model Oldsmobile sedan;dark blue or black; no license plates on front or rear; no driver side window. Black male adult driver, 30-40 years of age. Sometime before noon on Friday, Sept. 8, vicinity of Page Mill & Hwy 280.

If you or someone you know, on the Palo Alto Noon Ride or otherwise, had any contact with the driver, or saw the vehicle beforehand, please contact me by email. I've been asked to collect the information and then pass it to the CHP. Any reliable and factual information or observation, no matter how small or trivial it may seem, could be beneficial so don't hesitate to bring it forward. (Facts only please)

You can help by posting or forwarding this message throughout our local community (Santa Clara/San Mateo Counties) and cycling organizations.

Thanks very much for your help in achieving justice for John.
