GUNFIGHT IN TOMBSTONE
Thu, 08/23/2007 - 8:33am
Are you kidding me?
10 Morgan Stanley and 8 V.O.S. in a field of 27 aging gunfighters facing off on the dusty streets of San Ardo?!?
I swear, this is the only sport I know that gets BETTER as you get older!!
Sure, there are a few more races left, but doesn't this one feel like the final scene of a great season?
BRING IT ON, BOYS!!!

Kurt,
Where was Dieter? I was wearing my lederhosen (with a chamois of course) and even hiked it up a little hoping I'd get some video time. Sometimes I cross my bib short straps, grab a cold one, and pretend I'm herding goats. I think I hear Julie Andrews singing the "hills are alive."
Paul
Jess,
Thanks for letting us win the battle of the masses. You so gallantly got a flat while in the break, dismounted your noble steed and cheered on the peleton as we passed by. Your men had to continue the battle with one less knight and alas, could not complete the task without you. We couldn't have finished it without "I don't need a leadout" Langley.
Great race guys. It was a great way to end the year for me and will look forward to the next joust.
BTW, how did your like our new race tactic? We had Steve Gregorios pre-reg and not show up. Hopefully it scared off some riders. Best 20.00 bucks we ever spent. Of course, we cancel before 5:00 pm on Thursday and it doesn't cost us a dime!
Paul
Epilogue:
Morgan Stanley rode a marvelous race.
It was attack after attack between our two teams - a genuine battle - and MS fought with their usual panache and intelligence. (And population - 36% of the field.) Oh yeh, by the way, I think what you guys need now is a serious troop build-up to bring the "scorched earth" thing to the NCNCA. What a novel idea.
Great race, guys. No really, I mean it. No, REALLY!!! Damn these emoticons! They see right through me!
I know what will be motivating me throughout the base-training season.
- Zebraman (with a thorn in my damned hoof)
Paul Chuck's job has been to keep ME in check as if I am some kind of threat! The reason I ride San Ardo is for fun and for training. My focus all year has been racing the 'drome. In fact, last week I raced the 'drome on Wed, Thur, and Friday before racing Dunnigan. Thus I started with <4 hours of sleep and very tired legs. Any road success (e.g.finishing with the field) is a bonus. Indeed, even tonight I'm racing the velodrome!
alas...the only member without a single BAR point. Don't know why they let me into the group photo. Ergo, always the last to know about anything the team has planned for the future. Next year will be interesting. Since VO2 max drops as we age, let's all track how much we lose (down to the .00000001) and we'll mixxxx/merge the Top 10 into the Clydesdale Division. Now who wants to keep track of that?

Paul:
I heard an ugly rumor about Morgan Stanley joining forces with a certain other team next season ...
I can't say that I think it's sporting, given the manly talent you already have. And aren't you afraid that the frat-boy, party-til-you-drop, high-fivin' character of the current blue-crew could be affected?
(For those of you who haven't heard, for 2008 Morgan Stanley will be having collective off-season estrogen treatments and merging with the Bellas.)
So if you're in Napa in February and see some "Men In (Chris?) Black" looking unsusually curvaceous and alluring in their spandex, it's either Raiderette try-outs or the MS training camp avoiding testing.
Here's echelon pacelining. Nice angle, boys.
Here's my buddy Brian Fessenden celebrating a City Limit sign.

After:
It's going to be a hell of an interesting year, guys.
...and then there's Trish Bell.
cherche la femme!
Hey Paul,
That's what makes it so interesting, guys like you will show up. My guys don't think you're a threat because you don't look familiar. But I know who you are, and you're not the type to work with Kurt's cousin. If you do, then I'll be doing the voice overs for the video.
Watch out VOS!
Bernie,
George mentioned Steve, Gane, Langley, Fessenden, Terusaki, and Black. I'm one of the other four so maybe I won't have to work and I'll sit in the back and do the narration for Kurt's cousin while he mans the video camera.
Paul C. :P
I stand corrected.
Now how often do you see THAT in one of these threads?
And I know you MS guys are out there, chime in fellas whenever you feel.
Bernie,
I believe I DID spell Stan's last name correctly. Look at the results page of Dunnigan and others.
Cordially (choose the one I'd prefer),
a) George b) Jorge c) Georg d) Georges
Thanks Casey!
That race seemed hard to me (hills or any thing resembling a hill are not my friends) even though it was so flat.
A lot of great action in all categories judging by all the thread respondents, hopefully San Ardo will produce as much fun.
Bernie - Velo Promo has put the Dunnigan Hills results up ( at leat it looks like most of them except for maybe the later placings in the 3s) http://www.velopromo.com/dngn-rl07.htm
Don't get me wrong. I'm GLAD another team will have numbers to defeat the MS boys. Chris Black has WON EVERY TIME he's raced the 45+ open: 2002--1st, 2003--1st, 2004--didn't ride, 2005--1st, 2006--1st ( closest teammate was not in the top 20--he won on his own!) I could be wrong... maybe Black will be the decoy for big Steve. Will VOS be able to outsprint either of them? We'll see on Saturday. The big guns will be smoking!
Don't ask me why I put "size" in there, that is worse than misspelling Terasaki.
Must be the end of the season clean-out-my-system drugs that I brought back from my trip in a box I thought contained cycling shoes. Well, they were mostly for my grandma, and the positive for cocaine must have happened from the candy she brought back from South America. Or maybe the dentist, they still use that, don't they? The EPO is for my dog, I wouldn't touch THAT stuff, and by the way, my Mom's inhaler blew up when she was using it in the same room as me and I MIGHT have inhaled some of that (but I have a doctor's prescription for that), or maybe the prescription is for my cojoined, from the womb twin, it's hard to keep all these things straight, but my doctor says that the antidepressants to counter the excessive meth, uh, I mean caffiene use will make things clear up soon. The HGH is for my dog. Really.
I was size having fun.
K Bickel is on my Team, and so is Jess. Get it? You've let too much Testogel absorb into your in-between, and now you cannot recognize my incredibly witty sarcasm, or see the humor behind my inside joke of Dunnigan being rather hard on me (it would help if Velo Promo would post the results I guess) so take that!
GF's predictions are way off, at least as much as the spelling of Stan's last name.
Steve Giganticus will block by punching, nothing illeagal.
Im likin' this prediction stuff!
Gonna be a GREAT weekend of racing fer sher!
No Centerline infractions People. Please!
This is a tough one to call. But I'll make a prediction anyway, although it's hard to vote against Chris Black.
MORGAN STANLEY: will use Gane, Gregorious and Terusaki to cover any early break attempts and set up either Fessenden, Black, or Langley for the win. ( They may use Langley as a decoy, since he's racing the next day as well.)
VOS: will allow Hennessy to chase the breaks early on. If a break doesn't stick, they'll lead out Jess or Larry in the final kilometers.
I'd bet that no breakaway on lap one will succeed. I predict the lead out train of Morgan Stanley will be disrupted once again.
WATCH OUT FOR CHRIS BLACK!! WATCH FOR CENTERLINE RULE INFRACTIONS THE LAST TWO MILES!!
Otherwise, it should be a rather boring race.
WHAT?
Unfortunately I have relatives coming in from Germany, so I'm going to miss this race. My cousin Deiter has never seen a bike race though, and would like to come down and shoot some video. He looks a bit like me only has a beard, mustache, dreadlocks, and wears a T Mobile jersey. I'm lending him my Fuji to ride.
You can't miss him, he likes to sing German drinking tunes like "Wir outsmarted em es HA HA HA Deiter ist eine Fälschung HA HA HA Wir sind intelligenter und besser schauend HA HA HA"
If you could give him around a 20 minute head start so he could get set up with his camera, that would be great.
Thanks!
PS: Make that 30. He's got an engagement the next day and doesn't want to pedal too hard. Actually he'll need at least that. 40 would be better.
I think somebody is just trying to have a little fun Bernie.
You might consider your own advice.
Nothing wrong with a little smack talk to build up a friendly rivalry.
BTW: I very much enjoy wearing my lycra in public, but maybe that is because our kit so cool looking.
Spider People
......I have been watching this myself. All the submissions to this "blocking" etc.
San Ardo should be good!
Just be nice People and play fair!
Lighten up.
We're bicycle riders.
We wear lycra in a way that we never would in normal public life, and we rub ointments on our privates so they don't hurt our hey-nonnys after we ride. None of us are outlaws, and nobody is going to shoot anyone else. I hope. And it's not like this is Wente or something. it's a road race to top it off. Road races are easy.
