Early Bird #1 report
We had a very busy day at the first Early Bird event. A total of 376 riders ( the all time high for an Early Bird is 410 riders). Only one accident where someone got hurt ( a broken collar bone). We had 26 people take out their first USCF annual license at the race and 79 people take out a one day license.
Thanks to all the mentors who put in lots of miles helping out. The Cat 4 and experienced 5 race was only slightly slower than the 1/2/3 race but since the 1/2/3 race had a lot of mentors in it there were probably a lot of tired legs in the 1/2/3 race. Overall a lot of very fast racing put in by the 4s and different 5s groups and more importantly a lot of safe finishes. It was good to see that some of the 4s and 5s took the advise to keep things strung out on the last laps which helped keep things safer for everyone.

I've been to Velopromo events with *no* portapotties, the nearest bathroom was a thirty mile drive away, and where there were not any trees close to the road...
On week 1 the 4/5 race was flying and their average lap time wasn't that much slower than the 1/2/3 race. THe 4/5 race probably averaged close to 20 seconds per lap faster than the new 5 races.
On week 2 the 4/5 race slowed down a bunch ( probably due to splitting the field into two groups) and the 4/5 race ended up only about 5 second per lap faster that the 5s.
Casey, just curious, how did the speeds/lap times of the beginner 5 groups compare to the experienced 4/5 groups?

Ever heard the story about all the body parts that wanted to be boss?
All of them had some way of justifying why they should be boss.
Until one decided not to function to prove a point.
Guess which body part won.

Easy their brother....
$hit happens.
You "think" it is impossible? Is that a guess, or a known fact? Did anyone even try?
These companies typically have contingency proceedures in place for emergency situations. Situations like if the porta potties get knocked over the night before your event. Been there.
Or situations where they messed up and did not deliver the correct number of units.
If the company does not have that capacity, then it would be wise to use a different company.
Considering we have events every weekend from now until ???, I would think the NCNCA could negotiate a preferred provider pricing to offer to all of the clubs. Preferrably with a company that can provide the service, even on Sunday.
Providing adequate facilities is not an option, it's a responsibility that all of us promoters have to take on.

One thing to keep in mind as an organization, is a minimum number of Porta Potties that are needed for a race venue.
I don't know if we were experimenting, or there was a mistake on the delivery company's part, but it should have been top priority to make a call and get two more on site ASAP.
It's very hard to police people and keep them from public urination if the facilities provided are inadequate.

There was a delivery problem ( not as many were delivered as there were suppose to ) and I think it is pretty much impossible to get additional units delivered on a Sunday that same day.
It was a good day.
