Dunnigan Hills, How not to finish a race

Some images from the finish line video of a rider who demonstrates on of the ways you don't want to finish a race. http://homepage.mac.com/casey_k/PhotoAlbum4.html Note some of the riders who finished after this rider couldn't be placed due to the tent partially being knocked down and blocking out some riders.
I didn't see what lead to the accident but someone said another rider went off the pavement during the sprint and when he came back onto the pavement he swerved which caused those riders behind him to react which lead to the accident. What those images don;t show you is a second rider crashed also. The second rider crashed into one of the tables being used by the officials and knocked the table over. Luckily the crashing riders managed to miss my car parked just in front of the officials tent to provide power for the cameras/computer.
We can see the very strange end result, but how did this come to be?
