Death Valley Road cuts across from US395 to Death Valley, but we only ride the part of it that is paved. 14 miles up DV Rd, then 14 miles down into Death Valley itself, then turn around and finish at the summit. That is Stage 1.

Stage 2 is the fabled Onion Valley climb. John Summerson (The Complete Guide to Climbing By Bike) calls it "...the hardest hill climb in California." It is the front cover picture!
