Changes to Aug race schedule ( including the Dist RR)
There are some important changes to some of the races scheduled for next month that everyone needs to be aware of. Please pass this Info onto your friends who aren't on this list.
The Race at Fort Ord on Sat Aug 5th has been cancelled. They are doing controlled burns in the area and several roads normally used for the race will be closed to all traffic on that weekend. The only roads available would have left us with an unsuitable race on an out and back course that would have been of questionable safety.
THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP FOR CAT 1/2 MEN AND WOMEN AND CAT 4 MEN AND 17-18 JUNIORS HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE PATTERSON ROAD RACE ON AUG 12TH.
The Winters road race scheduled for Aug 18th is being replaced with another road race similar to the old Dunnigan Hills race. A section of the downhill section of the Winters course was washed out last winter leaving a section of gravel. For safety reasons it was decided not to run the race over the gravel section. The new race will start in Yolo and run clockwise around a 38 mile loop that will include several of the roads used in the old Dunnigan Hills race.
The Santa Nella road race scheduled for Sept 2nd will probably be replaced with a new road race in Yuba county. The new race will feature lots of climbing. More details will be available after Aug 2nd.
At the Giro di San Francisco the Junior race has been replaced by a separate race for Cat 3 women.
More information about all of these race changes can be found on the Velo Promo web site at http://www.velopromo.com/

OK Robert Leibold just found out that the planed controlled burn at Fort Ord scheduled for next weekend has been cancelled. This means that we have a 10.5 mile loop, with a short section of two way race traffic, that we can use for the race. The decision has been make to hold the Fort Ord race as scheduled and keep the championships at Fort Ord.
Sorry for the confusion but there shouldn't be any more changes re Fort Ord now.
The separate 3s race will not be eliminated at Patterson but we will probably open the 1/2/Pro race to those 3s that want to race for the championship.

Casey, Shouldn't 3's be added to the P/1/2 field for Patterson? The flyer currently has P/1/2 and the 3's separate. Do you imagine the separate cat 3 field will be eliminated?

The Dunnigan Hills course has less climbing on it than the Winters course. Dunnigan Hills has 3 sets of rollers. The wind will probably be a bigger deciding factor than the climbs. For people who like flatter road race sthe changes are pretty much an even swap. Dunningan Hills with less climbing than Winters while the Santa Nella race gets replaced with a hillier race.
Great some of us non climbers wait the entire summer for the road races sans hills and here we get another two races for the climbers. What's next San Ardo gets replaced with Fort Ord!
