Challenge Challenge RR profile?
Tue, 08/14/2007 - 8:30am
Can someone please post some data on the profile of this course - or any other pertinent info on the terrain.
A link to MotionBased tracking info would be especially cool.
Thanks in advance, Lisa

AFAIK, all of the Cal Cup races are on http://www.mapmyride.com/ .

I'm on your side - I voted for one lap.

Are there any steep pitches ( 10% + ) ?
At most probably. Though it all seemed like 10% or more to me last year.
OK you guys who wanted more laps...I expect you to encourage your friends to show up (we better be at 50 entries), and I'm getting the people who emailed Robert for more laps names and if you don't show up and FINISH I'm hunting you down and killing each and every one of you. Your death will be MUCH slower and more painful than Challenge itself BTW.

Thanks guys!
Better pass on the lightweight wheels and drop a few pounds from the bod instead.
Looks like it's definitely going to be a challenge in more ways than one!
Fantastic course, but I will repeat that some of the roads are pretty poor. It's really just the first descent, which they neutralized last year on the first lap, but there were plenty of mechanicals in that section and elsewhere. In the 3's alone, I flatted twice, I saw another 2 guys flat, and one guy's headset came apart.
However, I saw at least one person run carbon tubies with no problems. YMMV. Tough call, because light wheels would be nice for all the climbing and tubies generally reduce the chance of flats.
Me, too!

I wonder if the offset between what the road map overlay and the satellite photo info is caused by. I chose to use the satellite photo data as the valid thing when it diverged from the roadmap overlay.
I also mapped it out here:

Should be there. Let me know if it's not.

I can send you the profile in jpg if you can give me an email.
Thats your call. I always just use my Michelin Pro Race and have to problem anywhere, even Coperopolis ....bas spelling :x
Thanks Merlin.
Do you advise heavy duty tread for these roads?
I did the 45+ race last year, 31 miles , 3,000 of climbing, AVG speed 19mph ride time for 1 lap 1:40, I finished mid pack
The course is really fun, some of the roads are rough, lots of pot holes. Thats all I have hope it helps
