I'm working on getting the flyer up and registration open for the Chico Stage race and would like some input from my cycling peers. I've been planning on an $80 entry fee for this race but don't want to scare racers away. I realize that this is a bit more that other similar stage races but put forth that this budgets a 10K cash payout and a downtown crit course costs us $$$. (we could have the crit out at the Chico airport for a lot less but would lose a LOT of character) We're not a business out for maximum profit but would like to put on a quality event and not lose money. What to y'all think?

To add

Just to add to Gallands post were going to run the loop backwards on the paskenta course so that you go up the gravel/dirt rd instead of down. It will scrub some speed and make it a little safer. Quality of the rd right now is excellent, very hardpack and should probably remain that way through the rainy season.

Didn't Rodney Cox mention that he would host everyone at Casa de Cox?

I'll look in to host housing. That is a good idea.

I should probably note that while I am the race director and a board member of Chico Corsa this thread is meant to satisfy my own personal curiosity. Final determination of entry fee and prize list will be determinded by a vote of our BOD. There, that was for the thieves, lawyers and thieving lawyers (to steal from O'Grady).

As for the stages, the RR will be a 43 mile loop that utilizes the rollers/gravel of the unofficial "Paskenta" race that most fields will do twice. It is long enough and has enough rollers to allow significant time gaps. Crosswinds will also be a potential factor. The TT is a flat 10 miler just outside of Chico. The crit is our L-shaped 6 corner downtown course. Race durations are between 45 min to an hour depending on categorie.

Any chance of offering a Host housing service?

whoops! neither here nor there, but I mistakenly voted "yes," when I meant to vote "no" and the poll won't let me change my vote. sorry for making your results look wrong.

I don't think $80 is too much for high quality racing venues, a safe event, and accurate, timely results. I know you guys have been putting a lot of work into this event and I think it's going to be great!

Depends on the stages.

If you make the crits proper length (60 min for 3's, 35 1/2/3, and 90min for P/1/2) it is worth it. If there's a true RR or circuit race with a good course, that helps too.
