    Treasurer
    Secretary

Officers are elected for a one-year term, beginning in January and continuing through December. Nominations should be submitted, via email to treasurer@NCNCA.org, by October 15th, 2009. Each nomination should include a brief (500 word or less) candidate statement. Please include email address of nominee (if you are nominating someone other than yourself).

In addition, we are also accepting letters of interest for the non-elected Director positions:

    VP - Road
    VP - Mountain

    VP - Medical + Safety

These positions are appointed annually (not elected) by the NCNCA President and Officers. Directors are appointed for a one-year term, beginning in January and continuing through December. If you’re interested in being considered for one of the Director positions, please submit a letter of interest, via email to treasurer@NCNCA.org, by November 30th, 2009.[/]

I think this is less of an internal club issue than it is from one club to another.
I have friends on many clubs and I feel it would be a violation of their privacy if their clubs vote was made public.

I would not want them to change their vote just because I would find out that they did not vote for me, or have them feel bad because they did not.

by allowing one vote per club, you are allowing those candidates that belong to a smaller club a fighting chance. What I did with our one vote was ask the 9 member board to cast whom they would like to vote for, then take that output and used it for our one vote. I hope that all the clubs are discussing this on some scale before casting their one vote.

Thanks for the information, Casey.

I think that metrics are really useful, so helpful will be data on how many clubs we have participating in this year's election vs year's previous.

I hope we'll be able to get a much larger pool of clubs voting from all the regions. That said, may I recommend folks take a minute to shoot an email or phone/text to your club officers to check out how the voting is going.

Also, for those considering my VP candidacy - I also served on the Board of Directors for the Northern California Velodrome Association in 2008. I'm happy to say we've got growing attendance and participation at the velodrome in recent years.

Thanks again for spreading word about the election.

Regards,
Michael Hernandez

John - If there are issues of trust between a club's members and the club over how the club has voted in the election that is something that needs to be worked out between the club and their members. I argue that NCNCA shouldn't know how individual member clubs voted, or at least the officers shouldn't know, since there is a chance that a club may feel discriminated against because the club in question didn't support one or more of the people who get elected.

There is also the issue that NCNCA may not know how every club votes anyway if any clubs vote in person at the scheduling meeting. At the scheduling meeting we will just give ballots out to the registered club delegate. I don't believe we are going to have anything on the in person ballots to identify which club is represented by that ballot. Again if any club is concerned about what might happen if they vote the " wrong" way then that club may prefer an anonymous ballot.

When was on the USCF Board of Trustees I was voting as a representative of the licensed racers in my region. The only way that USCF had a record of how I voted on any particular issue is if a roll call vote was taken and off the top of my head I can't remember a single roll cal vote being taken during my terms on the USCF board.

Point taken. Although...

...I beg to differ. It may be standard for NCNCA elections, but it is hardly customary when votes are cast by delegates on behalf of individuals. True, the individuals here are not NCNCA members themselves, but as members of their respective NCNCA member clubs they may be given an opportunity to help decide how their club's delegate will vote. As part of that process they may want, even expect, some transparency that only NCNCA can provide. Maybe it's not a big deal with some or even most clubs, and this certainly isn't Congress (I've heard so very often "For crying out loud, it's only bike racing!"), and in this particular election it may be moot anyway, but customary? Hardly.

NCNCA Elections - thanks for your consideration

Hello NCNCA Forum readers.

Thanks very much for considering me for Vice President of the NCNCA.

Aside from my candidate statement, I've also posted information on the norcalcyclingnews.com website that I hope you'll be interested in reading. It outlines some of our current track activities and club collaborations at the velodrome.

http://norcalcyclingnews.com/2009/10/21/track-racing-ncnca-elections-n-s...

The duties of the Vice President are especially appealing to me because they focus on rider development (managing upgrade requests and special grants). This parallels my "real" work with SACNAS.org, where I manage our mentoring programs for under-represented minorities to advance in higher-education and industry in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math).

Aside from my 'enthusiasm' while announcing - feedback i receive that folks enjoy is that I know a lot of, and about, riders in many different racing categories thoughout the regions of NorCal.

I'm familiar with a lot of different races, regions, and individuals of our racing region and feel that I can be very effective in processing upgrade requests and communicating to riders the NCNCA procedures and requirements.

Aside from my announcing experience, I also promote the Friday Night Track Races at Hellyer Velodrome. I'm also a Veldrome Instructor. I've also assisted or promoted events from Road/MTB Twilight events in Reno/Carson area to cyclocross races and crits in NorCal.

As a racer, i've won state championship titles in Cyclocross, Track, Road, and Mtb in the states of CA, NV, and NM.

I also have experience with NRC and UCI racing, ranging from racing at events like Redlands to Cuba. And, I've also acted as a director sportif for teams & events such as the UCI Tour of Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania Lightning U-25 Team) and NRC events like Tour of Tulsa and Liberty Classic (Vanderkitten Women's Pro Cycling). I am also an official with USACycling.

I have also been involved in rider development programs throughout NorCal and Nevada and would like to be a strong advocate for special grants going to assist the many great programs around our region. I look forward to working to build the special grants ability of the NCNCA.

I am also strongly supporting the bid of Lori Lee Lown for President of the NCNCA. I feel her recent years of intense involvement with NCNCA governance will be of essential benefit in this transition period for the organization.

Thanks for any feedback or questions, and appreciate the consideration.

Alan, Cycling Systems was not a NCNCA member club in 2009 -- you didn't pay your NCNCA membership dues. The last record I have of your membership is as Team CS in 2008.

It would be great if all club/teams who have paid their yearly dues are on the list and entitled to vote. Cycling Systems was left off of this list at the link. I have emailed the contact...

We haven't discussed that, but my assumption is that Ryan will report only on the numbers of votes for each candidate.

Or maybe we should make a big map of the district and ask for updates daily leading up to the election with votes for each candidate, color-coded by their favorite color, posted by city on the map. I'll take orange (since I don't really like pink anyways).

Nope, everyone got them in on time. I'm the bottleneck on this one as my work schedule on Friday and over the weekend has been jam-packed and I just didn't get everything to Ryan Fu yet. My bad -- working on it tonight.

I hope that this is not the case, it would not be a very positive reflection on potential performance.
