Hello Racers, registration is open for our May 8th event in Livermore!

http://new.sportsbaseonline.com/events/index.xhtml?categoryId=25456

We are a first year club but many of us have been racing in the region for a while now. We also have some good collective experience in putting on races - and apparently some good connections for prizes and race support!

As a first year club and race, we had to make some tough decisions about field offerings and after consulting smart women in the know, we opted for a single womens category 4 event. We hope to have great success and be able to extend our day and add fields in the future.

We have already obtained $2000 worth of merchandise prizes and we are still gathering more. Cash only to those hungry E3, 35+1/2/3 and Pro/1/2 fields (not included in the $2000 figure). The first 300 racers and 50-75 kids who race will enjoy a very fine swag bag. Primes? oh yeah! Look for some PG&E cash Power Primes! Also, E3 and 35+1/2/3 can win a free entry into San Jose Bicycle Club's Memorial Day criterium.

I will post some updates to our prize configuration here, but for now, thanks to our race sponsors for merchandise and/or race support:

Pacific Gas & Electric (amazing support including energy efficient compact florescent bulbs in swag bags!)

Cyclepath of Pleasanton

Cytosport (prizes and race site product to keep you hydrated & powered up)

Mission Skincare products (Athlete engineered!)

e-Soles (prizes!)

Also, we support Best Buddies a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Only 11% of their funds go to administrative costs.

See you at the races!

Refund? Refund?! Refund!!? (which movie?)

Rick has a good point.

However, he wrote "IF" promoters are unhappy with pre-reg numbers - so, let me be clear - TVV and I are THRILLED that as of today 118 racers have pre-registered for our first year event; the 4 cat4 women have assured they made minimum field size. Thank You! And we know there will be a surge in the final 10 days; and we are also happy to take the extra day-of registration "tip" for our troubles. Please don't mistake my prize updates and encouragement to pre-reg with unhappiness. We love to race, we've put a lot of effort into making this a SWEET event and we're enthusiastic, not at all angry or unhappy at this point.

Regarding "No refunds" - yup, it's a policy worth having, but we have a heart. My race director will cringe when he reads this, but if you are injured in the lead up to our race, drop me a note and we can work with you. But if it is drizzling and you don't want to get your shiny team kit or valuable carbon/metal machinery grimy so instead you watch Paris-Roubaix 1984 on your trainer for the 18th time, NO REFUNDS. Yup, HTFU.

(NOTE: Joshua B of Third Pillar, drop me a note! I never got to help you out when you busted up your shoulder. Different race, but same heart.)

Race on, Xeno :P :P

If promoters are unhappy with low pre-registration numbers in the weeks/months leading up to their event, they might want to reconsider their "no refunds" policy.

I just wanted to report that a teammate and I went out and rode the course at race pace (or at least as close as my current fitness level permits) this week. This course is fast, fast, fast with wide turns and super pavement. There are raised grass banks surrounding much of the course and great sightlines for spectators.

For those bringing family along, there is a sports park a few blocks away that features a well kept BMX track. It seems like the perfect place for kids to warm up for their noon race or burn off some energy afterward. There is also a Starbucks, Quiznos, grocery store, and many other facilities nearby.

And if that is not enough to earn you a hall pass from your significant other, there is always the promise of some of the local flavor after the race.

See you there!

There are a lot of us racing that live & ride throughout the tri-valley. I hope we come out in numbers and show a great team and their sponsors the support they need to grow this local event.
