Sun and Wind at Bariani

Bariani Road Race presented by the Sacramento Golden Wheelmen

Zamora - 18 March 2012

Sunday's Bariani RR started without any of the forecasted rains...the sun was shining with barely a cloud in the sky. A light rain did fall in the middle of the day but the heavy winds that came up for the third and final flight of races became the weather-news for the event. Fields quickly split as racers faced the wind seemingly coming from several directions throughout the afternoon.

Jane Robertson (Metromint Cycling) comfortably won the sprint for the Women 1-2-3 race. Lucia Mokres (Los Gatos) finished second with Jane Despas taking third place. In the race for Master Men 30+ 1-2-3, Charlie Schneider (Whole Athlete-Specialized) was lying in fourth, racing down the downhill before the finish, but emerged in first upon reaching the finish at the top of the hill. Charles Hutcheson (Marc Pro-Starva) came home second and Joshua Carling (Michael David Winery Cycling Team) secured third place. For Master Men 45+ 1-2-3-4, Greg Betonte (GNARLUBE/LANDSHARK Racing) was the winner with Team Bicycles Plus/Sierra Nevada team mates Vincent Gee and Rodney Spradlin in second and third, respectively. Full results for all Bariani RR categories are posted on the USA Cycling web site.
