With the final race of the Central Coast series last weekend, our CX season is done. We had a fine season this year: good turnout at most races, a number of new events on calendar, and some real (muddy) CX weather for the first time in a couple years. A few new stars showed up to challenge the veterans, our riders earned a bunch of medals at Natz, and we'll be sending several to Belgium for the Worlds' in a few weeks. Not bad at all. ![]()

NorCal season over, CXers look ahead to Worlds (1/2/02)
As for those Worlds' riders: The USCF has just named the US world's team, and the list includes four NorCal riders: Gina Hall and Carmen D'Aluisio for the women, with Christine Vardaros as an alternate. A notable omission is Rachel Lloyd, who scored well in qualifying events but missed out on the coaches' discretionary selection. Rounding out NorCal's Worlds team is Jackson Stewart in the U23 men who had dominating performances in U23 events at Natz and SuperCup. Congratulations, guys, and good luck. Four NorCal riders named to USA Worlds Team (1/2/02)
The final standings of the NCNCA 2001 cyclocross rankings are complete. The results show that the leaders were truly best all-around racers throughout the season--perhaps not always race winners, but top placers week in and week out. Congratulations to the winners and all the competitors. Final champions crowned in NCNCA season BAR standings (1/2/02)
Note (1/14/02) - We had a slight change in the rankings, folloing the late addition of East Bay CX #4. The podium spots are unchanged, except for Mark Howland who moves into 3rd in the Master rankings.
Your BAR podium finishers are:
Senior Men: 1st Justin Morgan - 2nd Justin Robinson - 3rd Jackson Stewart
Senior Women: 1st Stella Carey - 2nd Christine Vardaros - 3rd Kim Vandersyde
Master Men: 1st Rich Maile - 2nd Keith DiFiebre - 3rd Mark Howland
Junior Men: 1st Steve Cozza - 2nd Juozas Martynaitis - 3rd Thomas Dittmann
Check out the complete standings here. Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Thanks to Casey Kerrigan for compiling the points all season long. The entire World's team (not just our guys) needs your help since the USCF pays essentially nothing to help them get there. If you can offer support, financial or otherwise, surf over to the American Cyclocross Foundation (news, website) and see how you can help. Help US riders make it to Worlds (1/2/02)
The rumors were flying fast and furious at Baltimore last month: CX Natz may be returning to the Bay Area in 2002. An undercover source from Seattle emailed me to say the rumor is that a venue in the Napa Valley will be hosting the country's top race next December. Stay tuned, CX fans. Additionally, there's hope that one or two local promoters may be working to organize UCI-sanctioned national class events next year. This season, the USCF has used UCI points as part of their worlds team selection procedures, but all but two of the races were on the east coast and none on the west coast, so hopefully that problem will be fixed next year. There's even talk of a national race calendar modeled on the road NRC series. So big things are in store for you next year. As if you didn't have enough to look forward to! 2002 Nationals in NorCal? (1/2/02)
Mark Legg, who once raced Masters and As CX races in NorCal, has moved to Montana and will be representing his home nation of New Zealand at CX worlds. Mark sent along a review of Cane Creek wheels for cross. Read it here. Product review: Cane Creek Carbon (1/2/02)
The biggest weekend in US cyclocross was just completed: the CX national championships and SuperCup finals in Baltimore, Maryland. In marked contrast to last year's slushy, frozen hell in Kansas City, Baltimore Natz featured cool temperatures, rain and mud...that is to say, very familiar conditions for NorCal riders. Our favorites took advantage of the situation and turned in some great performances including two championships and several other podium spots.
